This Privacy Policy explains how Trace ("we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Trace app and website. By using Trace, you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

• Account information: your email address, a unique username, your display name, and an optional profile photo.
• Content you create: the traces (memories) you add — their text, optional photos, the location coordinates you choose, timestamps, and the visibility setting (public, friends, or private) you select.
• Social information: friend requests you send or receive, and your accepted friendships.
• Location: only when you tap the location button and grant permission, used to center the map on your position and to place your traces. We do not track your location in the background.
• Technical data: basic device and usage information processed by our infrastructure provider (Google Firebase) to operate and secure the service.

2. How we use your information

• To provide the core service: storing your traces and syncing them across your devices.
• To enforce the visibility you choose, so that public, friends-only, and private traces are shown only to the right people.
• To enable friend requests and friendships.
• To send account-related emails such as email verification and password resets.
• To protect against abuse and keep the service secure.

3. How your information is shared

Your traces are shared strictly according to the visibility you set on each one: public traces are visible to any signed-in Trace user; friends traces are visible only to friends you have accepted; private traces are visible to you alone. Your display name and profile photo may be shown to other users in the context of your traces and friendships.

We use Google Firebase (authentication, database, hosting) to operate Trace. Your data is processed and stored on Google's infrastructure under their security and privacy terms. See the Firebase Privacy documentation for details. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for advertising.

4. Storage and local caching

Your data is stored on Google Firebase servers. To support offline use, the app also caches some of your data locally in your browser (using local storage and an offline cache) and stores your language preference. Clearing your browser data removes this local cache.

5. Your choices and rights

• You can edit or delete any of your own traces at any time inside the app.
• You can edit your display name and profile photo, and remove friends.
• You can request access to, or deletion of, your account and associated data by contacting us at the email below.

6. Children

Trace is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

7. Security

We take reasonable measures, including access rules enforced on the server, to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
